Smart Buildings Program

The Smart Buildings program is designed for building facilitators to assess and report on property specific Sustainability and Climate Change performance.

The Smart Building programme comprises of three online components for your building:

1. an Environmental Conformity Check (Smart Building Enviro Check),

2. a Benchmarking of Greenhouse Gas emissions (carbon footprint) including Water and Waste tracking,

3. resulting in the production of an Assessment Report leading to a certificate of assessment provided by Sustainable Certification:

 Smart Building is built with science, its calculations allow for international reporting standards (e.g. GHG Protocol Scopes 1 and 2 and NGERS reporting) and it has been validated by the UNEP team at the University of Queensland.

By verification of current environmental actions, you will be positioned to assess your efficiencies and be informed of useful next steps. By measuring your buildings emissions you will be prepared for mandated carbon reporting. By benchmarking your buildings emissions and resource utilisation you will be positioned to maximise engineering and facilities operations. And through appropriate actions, you will benefit all stakeholders and ensure CSR obligations are able to be reported on with confidence and proof.

THE SMART BUILDING ENVIRO CHECK FRAMEWORK

The Smart Buildings Enviro Check Framework will assist you to review your current business and sustainability practices. The Smart Buildings Enviro Check will highlight any areas which need to be improved and will provide a simple action plan for areas which need to be addressed together with suggestions on how to do this. Areas covered in the Smart Building Enviro Check will include the development and implementation of a Sustainability Policy and analysis of strategies to ensure minimal energy and water use and waste production.

You will be able to monitor how your energy and water consumption, and your waste production compares to the Best Practice and Baseline figures for your industry sector. That is, you will be able to report on your performance in comparison to similar operations in your sector. Over time Smart Building will assist you to track your performance, for example: Reduced energy & water consumption = Reduced energy & water bills = Increased Profit.

THE RECOGNITION

You will be awarded the Smart Buildings Logo when you complete the Smart Building Enviro Check framework and meet your building categories performance targets.
